Dental Imaging (OPG X-Ray)
What is Dental Imaging (OPG)?
An Orthopantomogram (OPG) is a specialised
Dental X-ray that provides a complete panoramic view of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. It shows:
- The condition of the teeth and jawbone.
- The mandible (lower jaw) and maxilla (upper jaw).
- The sinuses located in the upper jaw.
- The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) – the joints connecting the jaw to the skull.
At International Radiology Centre (IRC),
we use advanced digital OPG machines, enhanced with AI-assisted analysis, to ensure highly accurate results. These machines can also perform lateral skull X-rays (cephalograms), often required for orthodontic treatment planning.
We are recognised by leading UAE insurers, making your scan both accessible and affordable.

What Should You Tell Us Before the Scan?
- Please inform our radiology team if you are:Pregnant or suspect pregnancy – as precautions may be required
What Does the Procedure Involve?
- You will be asked to place your chin on a rest.
- Your jaw is positioned using a small disposable plastic bite guide for stability.
- You will usually stand during the scan while the X-ray unit rotates around your head.
- The exposure lasts only a few seconds – it is completely painless, but you must remain still.
- If a lateral cephalogram is required, your head will be positioned in a special support to ensure accurate alignment.
With digital OPG technology, results are processed instantly, eliminating the need for traditional film development and reducing waiting times.
How Long Does It Take?
- An OPG dental X-ray typically takes 10–15 minutes, including preparation.
